A Lone Rebel Pilot Gets Left Behind on Hoth in This Captivating 'Star Wars' Fan Film
Given the immense cultural impact of the Star Wars franchise over the past three and a half decades,it’s needless to say there are mounds upon mounds of fan fiction out there, but few truly do the original trilogy justice. Filmed and directed by independent filmmakers, Blood Brother Cinema Co., “Rebel Scum” is one prime example of just that. Telling the story of a lone pilot with the Rebel Alliance who gets left behind after the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, the short film is remarkable in its adherence to the 1980 epic, evident in everything from its sweeping ice-bound environment (filmed over two months in minus 30°C in Alberta’s Athabasca Glacier), the props, stop motion, color grading and even the scene transitions. Watch what could very well pass as a tie-in by Mr. Lucas himself up above, and catch the making-of here
